Best Fertilizer for Phals?

Any suggestions for the best fertilizer for Phals? I'm using semi-hydro with LECA.

Also, do I need separate bloom/growth fertilizers?

Is it okay to give them SuperThrive in addition?

Cheers!

There's a semi-hydroponic culture forum on this board. You might find some interesting information there about fertilizers and other additives. From the menu at left, select Forums, then look down for Semi-Hydroponic.

There is no "best" fertilizer for orchids, and no, you don't need separate bloom and growth formulas.

What you DO need is something that is complete with macro-, minor-, and trace elements; use it regularly at low concentrations, and your plants will be happy, healthy and grown and bloom well.

Sure you can add SuperThrive (there are better products than that available), but don't overdo it.

Thanks, Ray! Say -- I of course looked for fertilizer on your website, I thought ....and seemed to recall you didn't sell any. I just checked and it looks like you do! I'll order one of yours.

The SuperThrive ....I'm not crazy about anything that doesn't say exactly what it contains. The guy at the hydroponics shop sold it to me, and to be fair, the orchids seem to like it well enough, but I'm not sold on it if you know what I mean.

For phaleonopsis and maybe other epiphytes growing in semi-hydro, which of the nutrient products on your site would you recommend?

SuperThrive & K-L-N are good products, but containing synthetic hormones, they are susceptible to degradation when exposed to heat and light.

You can't go wrong with any of the fertilizers I carry. I have used them all at one time or another, and found them to be quite good. I stock them all to give folks options.

Thanks Ray! I think I'll try your SOLO -- sound like a good choice?

Ray 06-08-2015 06:29 PM

Solo is a combination product - fertilizer and root growth stimulant in one bottle. It is intended to be used at one tablespoon per gallon, once every 2 or 3 weeks, with plain water only in-between.
