Neofinetia in the Wild

These photos are taken in the national park in the south end of South Korea. The area is right on the coast line.

The weather in the area is very warm to hot in the summer with the average temp of around 24-25 C, and mild winter with average of about 10 C.
It does snow during the winter but not too much.
During the summer, the area receives lots of rain due to the influence of monsoon.

These pictures show how they typically occur in the wild.
The first photo shows a specimen of neo growing on a pine tree. The second one is growing on the rock with lichen and other debris, and this is most common way they grow. They receive ample amount of light.

The vegetation in the area is mainly pine tree and camellia among others.

Certain dendrobium species and cymbidium goeringii also grow in the same area.

You can, if you bring the tree indoor for winter. ;)

Yes!
Unfortunately, these are nearly extinct. The region reports that only about 80 small groups of these are found.

Many rock cliff in the area show abandoned ropes that illegal collectors used to reach these plants on the rock wall.
Some of these neos can go for very high price, and people would risk their life "stealing" these from the nature for money. How terrible!

They are absolutely gorgeous. It is so sad people have to do that.
