Brassia New Star[t?]

This plant came from Lucky Girl Orchids on eBay with three spikes in bud for $30 including shipping. The tag reads "Brassia New Star / Kalapana Tropicals". RHS Orchid Register gives no results for "New Star", but there is one for "New Start".

Largest flower is 20 cm top to bottom. Lightly fragrant with a citrusy-vanilla scent. Also reminds me of a certain incense.

I have a weakness for long, skinny flowers and fragrance is a big plus, so yeah. Love it!

Hope it gets huge.

Wow nice plant and blooms. I love these spike blooms.

Aren't Brassias wonderful? I've paired down the oncid alliance plants in my collection to make room for the slippers, so I don't have that many left. But I did keep a couple of smaller growing Brassias, and I enjoy them quite a bit.

Oh yeah, they are great. Specimen size, here I come :)

I love them too. Only have maculata yet.

Very nice. The pics in Orchid Wiz for Brs. New Start look like yours. Likely a typo.

Thank you for looking that up, silken!

That looks great , fantastic show of flowers too , I purchased this same plant at this years show , and on the tag it was called "new star" , has not flowered yet for me but since yours is doing so well , may i ask what conditions and how much light intensity do you offer yours as mine is showing some small black speckles on the leaves and i do have good circulating air , Does it like to be watered well ?. thanks

Hi Steve, I have only had this plant a couple of months, so I am really in the same place as you.

Advice I have read and received suggests that the plant likes intermediate temperatures, bright light, 60-70% humidity, and constant moisture while maintaining good air flow.

Mine is also covered in black spots but tested negative for CymMV and ORSV viruses.

After the blooms are faded, I will repot and take outside for the summer. Good luck to us both!

It looks great , after reading some posts , Apparently brassias dont like too much misting , i have done this weekly and now these spots are appearing , not sure i should leave it or treat it with something , I did a repot a few months after getting it , but i noticed yours was in clay pot
, did you put it in the clay or purchased it this way ?.
mine is now in clear plastic 6 inch pot .
