cattleya in basket
1 Attachment(s)
planted one of my catts in a basket trying something new.i'm watering every second day and misting as often as possibel.anything else i should be doing?
|
Looks good! You might stabilize it with fishing line to keep it from wobbling. I have some Catts and a couple of Phals in wooden "vanda baskets" with clay pellets (LECA) and they do great. But, as you mentioned, frequent waterings and mistings is necessary.
|
Too me it looks a little deep in the basket. Healthy looking catt :)
|
Agree, looks a little too deep. Also, since this plant sends up PBulbs very close together, the basket appears to be somewhat oversized.
Do you know what the basket is made from? Many decorative baskets are made from materials that deteriorate rapidly when exposed to high humidity (there is a reason most orchid baskets are made from Teak or plastic). |
i moved some of bark out so the top roots are a little exposed.it was a flower basket i'm re using.does being in a basket not negate the preference of a small container as waterlogging is highly unlikely?now the plant will be able to grow unhindered by space and repottings.
|
I am sure that the plant will do well. My concern would be whether the basket will hold up to being watered regularly. If basket materials break down too soon, you will have to replace before the bark breaks down.

Nice! Good luck

its spring here now temps have risen nicely and i'v moved him outside to the verandah where he gets the same sun but just a lot more air movement.how should i go about the watering now?
|
I'd make sure it dries out slightly between waterings, but never goes too dry for too long. Summer is almost here, we need to water more often :)
