Found a Snail on My New Paph delenatii alba

I have had the plant quarantined for about 5 days now. This morning, I went to check the wooden skewer and there was this tiny snail attached. I immediately began researching because that is just what I do :) . I was on the fence whether to repot or not, but I decided to repot it into a fresh new pot, fresh new media, and carefully rinse, rinse, rinse the roots. I also rinsed the entire plant quite generously and hung it upside down for a good bit to dry out completely.

I discovered pretty healthy roots, but a few needed trimming and a few of the ends looked as if they had been munched on. I also removed any old leaves and stuff the snails might be hiding in. I didn't see any more snails, but since they are so small, I can just imagine their eggs are not easy to spot with the naked eye so I didn't want to take any chances. I read caffeine seems to be a good repellent so I brewed really strong black tea...sorry, no coffee in this house. After repotting, I watered the plant with the tea and mixed in the stuff inside the tea bags into the media.

Tonight, I carefully inspected the plant with a flashlight...nothing! I also prepped a beer trap just in case. Other than that, it's wait and see. Wish me luck. I don't want to go to war with another insidious little pest. I am still licking my wounds from a mealy bug infestation over a year ago.

Diatomaceous earth is great for snails or slugs. You can find it online, at some garden centers or sometime at tropical fish suppliers (it's used in water filters).

Hmmm...I actually have some at home. I'll try adding some to the media during the weekend. Thanks!
