Suspected Vanda insignis x tricolor

Bought it as an insignis but when I saw the bloom I thought it was a limbata, but several people said that it's a hybrid between insignis and tricolor. They said that the petals and sepals very tricolor and the lip is the mixture between the two.

Thanks, I was a bit disappointed at first because I bought it as an insignis, but it does look good and I like the colour.

I bought it tied together with another "insignis". The other plant is a slower grower than this, so hopefully that one blooms as a real insignis haha

Could you take close photos of the lip, including a view from above ? If possible a photo of the plant too ? Do you know from which area of Indonesia this plant comes from ?
Which common characteristics of V. tricolor and insignis are supposed to be found in this lip ?

Take a look at Vanda perplexa - Motes & Roberts, Kew bulletin Vol. 68:1 - 2013- from eastern Nusa Tenggara, in my opinion the key is between perplexa and limbata. But better photos could help identification.

Before taking a closer look to the lip structure, please take in consideration that your flowers are finely tessellated. Neither insignis or tricolor are. Both insignis and tricolor have spots and/or dots (smaller size for insignis).
So if you cross those 2 species, you certainly not have tessellated flowers as a result…. !

I don't live at the same address as the plant. The plant lives at the hillside about 2hours from Jakarta (if the traffic is good), so I can't take another photo at the moment. I bought it from a seller who also stocked a lot of limbata from Flores, so he might accidentally sold me those.

This is the first blooming, the total of 5 flowers but three had faded. I asked a hobbyist who recently said that she found a Vanda perplexa in her collection

She told me that it might be Vanda perplexa, but she told me to wait for the next round of blooming and take a better photo to confirm it

I come back to the statement that it may be an hybrid between insignis and tricolor and I am more than dubious about that assertion.
As I alread written in my previous post, how can a cross between 2 species who have both spots/dots will lead to tessellated flowers ?
Then, personally, I don't see anything significant in the lip structure of your flowers who are closely related to insignis, tricolor or even tricolor var. suavis.

Have to see more of lip but by Knowing that the plant may originate from Flores gives more arguments to state that it is limbata or perplexa. Maybe even more chance about perplexa because the lip seems pretty rectangular.

The problem is that the 2 species are very closely related and if some plants are easily recognizable, some are (at least for me) difficult to identify as limbata or perplexa.

About that topic, Destario Metusala has already done remarkable work and I think is still working on these Nusa Tenggara Vanda species.
