Is this a keiki? On a paph?
 

My ancient, neglected but still alive paph has a growth out of the side stem. Actually, after I looked at the picture, I discovered two of these. They look like keikis but can paphs produce keikis?

Here's the picture to go with my question of "is this a keiki or two on my ancient paph?

Paphs are sympodial, so I suppose that could be growth from an old dormant growth front ("eye") on the rhizome.

Can we see the whole plant?

And what type of paph is it species or hybrid

My South Pacific area species tend to "climb up" eg. volonteanum. The new growths start above the plant base. Not sure why? Could be an adaptation to keep the plant from being buried in leaf litter... What does your whole plant look like?

I don't think that's considered keikis, which is a growth of plantlet on areas that are not meant for growing such thigns as on spike or along the cane of dendrobiums where flowers are supposed to come out.

Your paphs is growing a new growth. It's just that the "stem" is a bit too elongated.
In nature, those would be partially or completely covered up by fallen leaves and dirt.
If you leave it as is and do not have very high humidity, the newly emerging roots may dry up and stop developing.

Are you sure that that is a Paph? It looks more like old Dendrobium canes to me and would explain the growth you're getting much better.

As strange as it is, that leaf on the left of the picture shows leaves of barbarta paph. species or maudiae hybrid.

I thought one of mine was bad, but this is an extreme case. lol

Yes, it is a weird paph. I made the mistake of potting it in a too big pot a few years back. Then had a car wreck and lost a few plants and a few survived but suffered greatly. This one has hung on but the stem of the plant is nearly 8 inches long, hangs over the side of the pot, and has 5 to 6 sets of leaves on the end at any one time. I'm hoping that this new set closer to the roots will take off and hopefully get this guy back to a more normal appearance. Then I suppose I'll cut off the long, lanky part of the plant above these new growths.
