Moving! How to transport?

So we are a military family with orders. Our move will be in the middle of July driving for 10 hours (probably with a stay overnight as I have a baby).
What are your suggestions on transportation of my Phals? I would have a really hard time parting with them, so I am trying to move them with us.
Do you think a dense foam with x's cut into it and sliding the pots in would work?
We will be in temp housing before and after the move until our household goods arrive.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Put them in a box, and pack them so they don't fall over. If it makes you feel better, keep the top open.

Okay! Yeah, some are spiking now...like 4 of them, so they will be in full bloom during the move. I should have mentioned though....about 4-5 of them have a lot of air roots that i do not want broken

You could probably box them as people do when they are mailing them. That would be the best protection. I have seen tape over the pot so the media stays in. Shredded newspaper or cotton around buds, then a piece of newspaper folded over that and taped into place. Then shredded news paper around entire plant and wrap the whole thing in a piece of newspaper and tape in place. Then place in box with packing peanuts. Tape the box up. If they can last for a few days like that, a 1 day move would be fine. Just don't leave them in a hot car or something like that. That is most likely over kill, or you can put them in a box as suggested. You just want to keep them from direct sun, heat and bouncing around.

Thanks! Good advice. Overkill is probably better than not enough protection. My husband is like...cant you just give them away and buy more?? Uummm...no. lol

My wife and I will be taking the plants, tarantulas, cat, and dog on a cross-country drive from Boston to LA the end of July. I'm planning to pull my plants out of their pots and store them all together, barefoot, in a small cooler or similar.

Hmm...i do have a spare cooler. And my move is from Illinois to Biloxi, MS. With a snake, two dogs a baby and a husband :-)

Tell the hubby you could give him away and get another if he would like. LOL

LOL ^^^ totally made me giggle

Snake in a bag in a cooler with the plants. Perfect. Never leave them in an unattended car, but even with variation in car temp due to sun coming in the windows, they'll be happy in a cooler. Makes it easy to lug them in and out of the hotel room, too. My spiders will be in reused yogurt containers in the plant cooler.
