Lc. Final Blue buds!
Hey everyone. My first non-phal orchid is budded! :D
A new growth started towards mid January; I found it somewhat strange though. It started off of the second pseudobulb from the newest instead of continuing off on the newest one. The bud is coming from a bifoliate, shorter, rooted, p-bulb. I'm very excited and surprised to see this orchid budded under my care. He sits under 2 T5HO lights, by a South-facing window. He's with my Phrags. and Multi Floral Paphs. I've been leaving the pot sitting in water, about 1/3-1/4 of the way up. I refill it once it dries up, or a couple days afterwards. I've been using K-Lite, and the newest leaves look much shinier than the previous ones. :) I still can't believe it's budded on a new growth after just 3 months! I got it from Kawamoto Orchids in December as NBS should bloom within a year. http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8dkpgtfe.jpg http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/...psue4p2by9.jpg |
Looking good.

Awesome!

You leave the pot sitting in water?
congrats on the budding! |
Thank you! :)
Yep.. It started out as me forgetting to take the pot out when I would soak it. I noticed that the new roots went crazy when I left it in the water, so I watched carefully to make sure that I wasn't rotting everything. Also, I noticed that the most of the roots started heading to the bottom, instead of over the top as much. Once the bark breaks down, I'm going to move it to S/H probably. I'm also doing this with my Lc. Mari's Song that I saved. The top is sphag, but the bottom is all LECA. Once I started leaving the Lc. In the water, the new growth started growing faster. |
Interesting. Let us know how it works out over time. I know right now my catts are wanting more water and are doing a lot of growing.

Interesting, and good explanation!

Congrats!

Congratulations on the bud. And who knew :hmm about setting one like this in water. I know my Catt's and Lc. mixes in 4 inch pots have to be watered every other day in my dry climate.
