Maybe a spike?
 

I am new to Cymbidium orchids. I have a Green Mini Cym that I got in February in full bloom one spike. I just cut the spike today before all flowers dropped. I put it outside when ever I can and left it out for 2 days the temp was 66 and dropped to 40 at night. I have not repotted it I think it is happy in this mix and the size seems right.

It looks like new growth to me because This is how my Zygos look when they are growing new growth. But I was looking online and it seems like Cym spikes are very different from other orchids.

So is this a spike? I think it might be.

If it has already flowered my guess is growth gently feel the growth/spike if it is soft it is a spike if firm a growth . The plant looks a little deeply potted to me the bulbs should sit on the surface

Wish I could help but I don't know. What ever it is it's at least growing.

Definitely a growth.

It is not planted too deep they had put extra bark on top to make it look fuller. I too off the extra and the bulbs sit above the surface now.

I thought it was new growth too but then I saw photos of Cym spikes and since these are green flowers I thought maybe it is a spike. Only time will tell even if it is new growth I am happy.

:yikes: Put the bark layer back! Cym bulbs should NEVER sit above the mix but should be buried 1/4 to 1/3 their length to prevent wobbling and hence insure stable root growth.

The bulbs are not sitting on top the bottom part is still under. I just exposed a bit more of the bulb. It is very stable and the top bark was really just for show. It's hard to explain I will get a photo.

Yep, it's a growth. and yes, as she says, it is buried a bit too deep. lol

If the bulbs are partially buried and stable, you are fine. Your statement gave the impression that they were "sitting on top of the media".
