Big Leaf Orchids

Yesterday I received my order from Big Leaf Orchids. Even before I received them, I had emailed Peter with quite a few questions. He patiently answered each one and was very helpful in advising me on the care of the phals I was to receive.
The plants themselves are very healthy and visually appealing- the leaves are so shiny! I do have to say, though, that I wasn't expecting them to be so small- but this is my own oversight, as Peter posts the pot and leaf size for almost every listing. Also, neither of the plants were advertised to be in spike. A welcome surprise!

I have a Phal Samera from Big Leaf also. No spike on mine, so I am jealous! But he did throw in a free Phal Feng Mei Sweet in bloom, so that was a nice surprise. The Samera is in a terrarium with my other phals, mostly species, and unlike the others, the Samera is not that happy.

Any tips from Peter on what the Samera likes? I think it might like it warmer than my other phals, so I moved it into another tank with a heating pad to keep night temps around 80 and reaches 84 during the day, and it has responded with a new leaf. Is this a plant that really likes it warm?

Joseia, even though yours didn't come in spike that was a pretty sweet gift he gave you! I think I'm the jealous one! As to the care, I'm just going to quote what Peter said in regards to both of mine:
Quote:

The ones you got have species parents that prefer warm temperature. *They came from countries like Malaysia, Indonesia where lowest temperature does not fall below 70F.* You will do well with them if you keep them warm.* This is the key that separate them from the store bought phals. *
*
Also you do NOT need to chill the plant to 60s F to induce flowering.* Fragrant novelty type bloom when days are long and night are short – and temperature is warm.* They also like indirect but bright light.* Same amount of light as other phalaenopsis.

Boshia, thanks for the care information, I will keep doing what I am doing, maybe drop the night temps down to 75. Please post pictures of the flowers when they arrive, would love to see what mine might look like.
