Phal from bark to leca

Hi everybody,
I have a phal that was given to me as a gift, however the bark appeared to be very old,had critters as well as white spots on it that appeared to be fungus..I tried to soak it with hydrogen peroxide and water but didn't do much. Some roots had rot as well. So I repotted it in leca beads and cut the spikes. I soaked the roots in a solution of water and physan 20 (1tsp for a gallon).
Now,the leaves are not as firm anymore and got droopy within hours from the repotting! The roots look weird too. During the process some cracked and looks like there is mould on :s
I'm not too sure what to do now..is it normal??
Forgot to mention the pot is a normal orchid pot with holes at the bottom.

Thank you in advance!Attachment 111211Attachment 111212Attachment 111213Attachment 111214Attachment 111215

My first question is why did you choose leca? From the picture, it appears as if the media is dry, so the phal went from media that was broken down and had fungus. perhaps because the phal went from a damper environment to dry, it is having a hard time adjusting?

But I'm guessing and upon a third look, the roots look green as if they have moisture.

I chose the beads because the bark was messed up and I'm leaving the phal with someone else, so I didntnwant to worry bout root rot. I had another phal in leca beads and it had no problem at all so I'm not sure why this is having a hard time. I just hope it will recover soon :(

My fingers are crossed! Hopefully someone can chime in and offer some advice :)

Looks like it has a good chance to me. Just water when the roots are silver and see how it does. Keep us posted :)

A lot of the roots look good. I hope some members have some ideas to help!

Is it normal for the phal to react so badly to a repot?

WhiteRabbit 04-19-2015 07:04 PM

Last year I had a Phal I repotted from sphag to chc, and the roots almost immediately started to look like they were rotting. I repotted another at the same time (also from sphag to chc) that had no trouble at all. I don't know why, the one had an issue. After a couple weeks of watching roots decline, I put it back into sphag.
