How long do blooms last?
Hi! I am just curious how long a flower/bloom should last for a Epi. Siam Jade? I think mine has been in bloom for a few weeks, and it is already starting to fade.

Becca, I'm surprised not one of the experienced orchid fanciers has answered this. This is a question that has a very long and detailed answer. I summarize by saying from a few hours to many months. If you were only referring to your Epi, then I defer to an expert in Epidendrum.

Becca, sorry I seem to have missed this when you first posted it :blushing:
When my Siam Jade was in bloom last year, the blooms lasted probably a month...give or take a week or so. |
Thank you both of you! I would say that is about how long it was in bloom for so I won't complain...although I miss it's beautiful blooms already and I can't wait for the next round of blooms!

Hi Becca,
I found that if I take pictures as soon as my blooms are fully open then I get to see them anytime I want. What I miss is the fragrance. Keep your camera handy when those spikes get ready to open. Lorraine |
Hi Becca,
my Epi. Siam Jade's blooms lasted for 3 weeks the first time it was in bloom and almost 5 weeks the second time... (the first time, it was quite new under my growing conditions, by the second time, I think it had adapted ;)) |
How disappointing! Most of my catts last 6 weeks. 3 weeks is a rather short bloom life. This is also an issue, IME, with Pot Burana Beauty. Hmmm, well good to know. I was thinking of getting Siam Jade [I usually don't care for green flowers but like that one]. May have to reconsider that now.

Well I think that even if it only lasts for three weeks, I would rather have it then not! It is a really beauty when open and is totally worth it!

3 to 5 weeks, but lovely weeks... :) The plant is amazingly beautiful... ;)
