Brown spots on blooms of Den. Green Lantern
1 Attachment(s)
Can someone help me identify what is going on here? I got this Den. a few months back and it had two buds on it. As they got bigger I noticed a little spot on one of them but didnt think much of it. Now it has multiple flowers on it but every single one of them has little brown spots on it. The leave don't have the spots but it has lost the bottom few, they get yellow and dry up and fall off. If it wasn't for the spots I wouldn't even think twice about the leaves though. Anything I can do about this? Thanks!

Might be fungal or bacterial ... cold water, cool damp air with no circulation ?
Hopefully others with more knowledge than I will chime in! |
My orchids are in a fairly warm room with good air circulation, I also never water with straight from the tap cold water. This happened so fast after getting this orchids that I have a feeling it came with whatever this is. What do you think I should do for it? I have kept it from touching the other orchids but my space is limited so Its still on the same shelf. Should I move it?

Hopefully some other members will be able to help! It wouldn't hurt to isolate it until the cause can be identified.

Anyone else have any advice? I could really use some help with this one.

I'll be waiting for more input along with you. Had this happen to a couple of blooms recently too.

Did you get the plant in bud or was the flower already open, and then got the spots once in your care?
my :twocents:If you got it in bud and when it open it had this, then I suspect that some water got in the buds and that cause it to get a fungal infection, or some sort of spray got in the buds. That is why is better not to spay the buds with insecticidal soap or any other liquid because it can cause damage to the flower. Quote:
Hope this helps. |
I got it in bud and once the flowers opened they formed the spots. However it has formed new spots and they have them as well. I dont spray my orchids with anything. I water by letting them sit in a tub for 20 min. Occasionally I get some water on the phals leaves but this plant would never have a reason for water to get on it that high up. I looked up botrytis first thing when I saw this but it just doesn't look like that and I haunt been able to find anything that seems like a possibility.

To clear it up, you noticed spots on the buds before they opened? If the bud had the issue then it would appear on the flower after opening.
Whether or not it could be disease, treating as such could be used as a precaution. It may have been damaged as a bud mechanically or be sun damage. If it doesn't seem to spread or anything I think you should be fine. |
They are not on the buds when they are still buds. As they start to open they start forming the brown spots. Once the flower is open it usually has a brown spot or two and then developed more over the next few days. This happens to every flower. The oldest flowers were just buds when i got it, the newest ones are buds that have formed since Ive had it. Sorry…does that help?
I dont really have a way to give more air, light or warmth. It is sitting under one of my 4 bulb t5 strips with a fan near by. Under those lights is by far the warmest place in my house. What fungicide do you guys use and recommend? So I need to pull all its flowers off? |
