Questions about Dendro.
 

After flowering, I cut off the spike. I didn't let it dry out. Was that right to do? Where will the next spike come from? Do the canes ( I guess that's what they're called ) keep growing longer? They seem to be getting pretty leggy. I have mine in a slatted basket and clay pots. Last question..............In south Florida, can I attach them to trees?:scratchhead:

I believe you can attach them to your trees. If it ever gets colder than 40 degrees you could cover it. Yes, cut down your flower spikes yet put rubbing alcohol on your scissors first to be sterile. Usually after two years of growth of the canes, they will drop their leaves. We keep the canes as dendrobiums can flower from any cane, leaves or no leaves. I spike up the canes with wooden stakes to teach them to grow up and not out to the side, as they will follow the sun. I try to train the new growths to grow in frint of the older, leafless canes to look better. What I'm saying is not to cut down the older canes as you might be cutting off some of your great flower power. Hope this help and let me know!

A belated thanks for your help. I've just finished staking out the rest of my plants. I didn't know if they should be split or could be split into new plants. Staking them should help keep the plants in good shape though.

If you wish to make divisions, please rmember to divide them as three or more pseudobubs for a division.
