Isabelia virginalis

Isabelia virginalis - beautiful Brazilian species, I love the growing habit of this orchid, and the blooms are just extra plus :-) Grown outside, mounted, letting dry in between waterings, regular fertilizing, bright light.

Really cool Tommy! So different, love the plant and the bloom is adorable. Do you have problems with insects on you outdoor plants? Our weather is improving slowly but I'm just not sure about putting them outside.

Really cool one, love it!

Love it and I have it too,. Though mine bloomed a few months ago :)

Oh...like a stake in the heart! I struggled with mine for sev. yrs.-finally gave up. It was either me or Isabelia. My favorite feature tho is the burlapy-looking covering around the pbulbs. Very nice indeed!

Many thanks everyone. Yes, pseudobulbs in their "stockings" are so cute. Patty, I really do not have much issues with the insects, some spider here and there, and birds or squirrels hiding the nuts, lot of living lizards which I love, it is 5th floor balcony ;-)

Mine is blooming too. 😀
Hard to take a picture. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...58c0def480.jpg |
Looks great. How are you growing yours? Mine isn't thriving.... but it is a long way from dead
|
I grow it mounted on a cork slab.
Quite bright light, humidity around 60% Intermediate temps (18-24 C in winter, outside in summer) I water it every other day but very lightly. Just a quick spray. Those 'stockings' hold a lot of water and when it doesn't dry out in between waterings, the pseudobulbs tend to rot very quickly. Mine is also not what I would call thriving. But it's doing better than I thought. Higher humidity would certainly be better |
Wow, great growing habit and form. Very unique.
