What a difference a year makes. At the Deep Cut show, I bought a bareroot division from Equagenera in February 2014. It bloomed almost immediately after I potted it up. I let it open (to see the colors), and removed the flower immediately, as the plant seemed weak. Shown in first photo.

It has grown well since then, and is blooming again with two well proportioned flowers now. Photos 2-4.

Very nice and yes, much better this year!

See what you mean. Will a better result occur on any orchid when an inferior bloom is removed?

A flower can't get any better than the genetics of the plant permits. However, a weak plant will usually produce smaller/weaker/fewer flowers, than the same plant in good health.

Some growers remove buds from plants that are too small or weak, so that flower development won't use energy that could be directed towards plant growth.
