Is it possible to save these orchids?
 

Hey guys, not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'm posting it in this category anyways. so at the office I work at we get gifted plants and orchids from the most amazing clients. The staff is very fortunate to receive orchids as gifts! Only problem is that not everyone care for their plants as they should and let them go to rot. I spotted these two oncidium plants (not sure if they're oncidium though) that seem to be in a very unhappy home. Now what do you guys think? Can I save these two plants? And if so, what would be recommended to help save them and get them back to their potential. I've never reported an oncidium/pseduobulbs orchids before. So any advice would help.

Both seem doable to me. I don't do anything special really...I repot them in new media and water when approaching dry. I find that my oncidium types don't like to dry out. You should try to keep as many of the pseudobulbs connected together as possible since those are energy reserves, but of course if there is a rot problem with one of the bulbs then cut it out.

Now, the first one looks like a climber and you will probably fight it for the rest of its life trying to fit it into a pot. Many people give up and mount them so they can climb away.

I think the plants would really appreciate a good clean up and repot.

They are both very salvageable.

Both appear to be severely dehydrated and root bound. Nothing that a good repot and watering schedule won't cure.

I've saved worse looking plants. I'd pot them in a larger, BUT VERY SHALLOW pot in a mix of bark chunks and fine bark, but no moss. Moss would help it to start with, but then later on, do it more harm than good, IMO

Just keep it moist enough to shoot, but not so moist as to rot, and then taper back on the water when the plant start to get better.

Orchids are So Hardy and tough one of the reason I have so many now. Don't underestimate an Orchid.

Just like everyone said with the right care this plant will come around. Good luck it will be so rewarding when it blooms again.
