Paph Pinocchio in bloom

I've always loved this one

This was sold to me as Paph Pinocchio, though it's been questioned in the past if it's actually one of the species that looks very similar, because of the halo around the dorsal (something my first Pinocchio plant didn't have) however others have said Pinocchio is variable enough not to question the tag... so Pinocchio it is :)

Anyway, I love it, this is the second flower on this spike (I just missed getting photos while there were two at the same time). It's dropped since the photo here, but a third bud is plumping up nicely :)

Gorgeous plant Rosie! :) Maybe you can get a double bloom photo when the next bud opens.

I have one as well, if you remember, that also had a questionable ID (looks very much like yours). I got it in bloom 2 years ago and I'm so happy to say that for the first time since it has a spike starting! I'm really excited because this is the first time that I'm reblooming a Paph. I wasn't watering nearly enough, and not giving enough light.

Everyone should have a Pinocchio in their collection! Though, at least in Europe, it seems to be a plant which is available in waves. For some months they are everywhere and nearly every vendor has it, and then the plant disappears and can't be found anywhere, until the next wave hits...

I've seen them online, but haven't found any at the greenhouse. :(
Although I almost bought a Pink Fred and/or Woluwense... There's always next time. Maybe there will be a Pinocchio too!

I love it! I think I need one for my terrarium. I have a noid Paph in there that needs a friend to compete with.

By the way a rose by any other name.......

I don't see any reason to question this as Pinocchio, but since Pinocchio has been backcrossed to both species parents, line bred, selfed and re-crossed for several generations there are so many similar hybrids it is impossible to be sure. Pinocchio has become almost a generic name for the style of hybrid. There are many cases where the hybrids get passed off as one of the species. There should be less motivation to do the reverse, but so many mass market orchids come with no name at all, and growers sometimes want to tag it with something. In any case they tend to grow like weeds and bloom almost constantly.

Is the inflorescence pendant? If so I would not be able to keep it in my terrarium. But I think I would give it a try in a pot instead.

:waving They're not pendant but I can see why you thought as much form the way the foto was taken. Get one!
