Restrepia brachypus

Today, I was looking inside of one of my vivariums and noticed that this little one opened up! This is the first time I've seen this species bloom in person and I can't believe how vibrant it is!

I took it out for a quick photoshoot. Hope y'all like it :)

Very nice! I have a "spotted" brachypus, or at least its labeled that way.

Awesome!

Wow nice close-up! I might need a macro lens when mine bloom again. Hopefully I can set up my terrarium soon enough to house the mother plant. She's struggling to grow due to low humidity.

Thanks!

Huh, I don't think I've heard of a spotted variety of this species. I have heard of a few misidentified spotted specimens, though. Do you happen to have Icones Pleurothallidinarum XIII (Luer, Carlyle)? It has a great dichotomous key for properly identifying Restrepia.

BTW, if anyone happens to have that book available, I'm looking for a copy! ;)

Thanks Kevin! I'm super happy with that shot, especially since that was without a macro lens! I shot these using the 18-55mm kit lens that came with my Canon 300D. To cut down on movement, I used a tripod and timer since I don't have a remote shutter. Hopefully, once I can afford a new lens, I'll be able to get even closer

My plant loves being in its terrarium and it sits around 80% humidity or higher. I definitely think this species likes to stay moist.

I have few misidentified Restrepia. I don't have Icones Pleurothallidinarum XIII, but, certainly wish I did.
