Teacup Phalaenopsis??? Will it stay small or is it just juvenile?
I just bought a "Teacup" Phal and was wondering if it is actually a miniature plant or if it is just a juvenile plant? It is a very healthy little plant with two flowering flower spikes and healthy roots.

It's probably a miniature Phalaenopsis, look up Phalaenopsis equestris on image search and see if that looks similar to yours.

Ok thank you!

have seen those tea cup phals at Walmart, look like mini phals to me. They will stay small.

True minis are not something you'll likely find at a generic store. For the really mini ones, you usually have to by from an actual orchid vendor and even then it can be a challenging search. This one, for example is a true mini -- the plant is around 10yrs old and is in a 2.5" pot: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ps9878eadb.jpg |
Juvenile phals (small seedlings) will not flower.
Mini phals that are super tiny will stay that size. Some may get a little bigger but nothing like a standard sized phals. Mini phals are sold all over the place here. Whole Foods, Trader Joes. :) |
I bought one supposed noid mini from a big box, it's getting ready to flower again with nice full buds. It's never gotten any bigger.
|
I had kept mini NOID phals from supermarkets and the super minis that are really small never got bigger over the years.
My super cute little NOID from the whole foods from two years ago is in bloom again boasting its beautiful deep magenta flowers. Leaf span is the same about 3in. So cute! |
I thought that this orchid was healthy but after a while the flowers started wilting and the leaves started to srivle I took it out and it has like no good roots but one new root is starting I have no idea what happened to this orchid :(.
