Aerangis citrata in bloom
3 Attachment(s)
Cool to warm growing species from Madagascar. Grown in a north facing window. (Reportedly can tolerate deep shade). Moss on mount is kept lightly moist at all times.
I got this one June 2012 (from Andy's), and it has bloomed each winter I have had it. As last year, only one spike, but it is quite a long spike - it had 30 buds, but 4 blasted. Blooms are about .75" long, .5" across, with approx. 1" spur. Leaf span is about 8". Reportedly fragrant, tho I have never detected a fragrance from mine. Thanks for looking :) |
Beautiful species, and the spikes take like FOREVER to actually open, awesome!

Yeah, the spikes are a real exercise in patience, aren't they? Mine starts spikes in early summer, and blooms 6 months later :p |

Mine is in spike again too. Two years in a row after getting half cooked. And it's certainly an exercise in patience! Because of the plant's position in my paludarium I haven't been able to get close enough to get a whiff, but this year's spike is long enough that with a safety harness I can probably reach it!

Wow, that is gorgeous. I just bought one from J&L a few months and it has a tiny beginning of a spike. I guess I will be waiting a long time. :)

Sorry about your broken spike - glad you have another! |

At least you know ahead of time that these grow their spikes very slowly! ;) |
Congratulations! It looks gorgeous!
