pseudobulb help
4 Attachment(s)
I have an Odbrs. Kenneth Bivens Santa Barbra, and the pseudobulbs are very thin and wrinkly. Is this ok? I have had the orchid for over a year and 2 new bulbs have grown (1 still growing) but the orchid will not rebloom. I don't know what to do with this orchid please help!

The new growth looks very good, so that's a good sign! It may have previously been either under-watered, or lost roots to rot, causing the shriveled pbulbs. I don't think you can expect really fat pbulbs on this, tho with roots and proper care newly developing/ed ones will be smooth. The previous under or over watering could be why it hasn't bloomed. If roots are now good, and cared for properly, it may be able to bloom from the new growth. Another factor for non-blooming might be insufficient light (foliage does look a bit droopy, which can be an indicator of too little light).

Repot when the new growth starts roots, tho it would likely be fine to do it even before there are new roots, but that's the *ideal* time to repot orchids, so if you can wait til then, do so. Or, you may have some new roots starting now that I didn't see ;)
I haven't grown any *straight* Brassia (just intergenerics where Brassia is a parent), but in my experience, Oncidium alliance plants can be extremely resilient. |
Do you water based on a "schedule" (the 7-10 days) or is that how long it takes for it to dry? I agree with what WhiteRabbit has said.
Have you ever repotted it? You could take it out of the pot gently and have a look at the roots then put it right back if everything looks good, or not if you need to repot anyways. At least by taking stock of the roots you can get a better idea of what may be happening here. Keep us posted! |
