Platystele misera flowers and seed pod

Growing in my high humidity greenhouse cabinet in Sydney summer. Only recently noticed the seedpod. Wonder what Australian native insect did the deed of its Ecuadorian relation halfway cross the globe?

Nice! :)

I'm guessing fungus gnats to be the pollinator. Fungus gnats are small enough and universal enough - maybe they're the ones. There appears to be some scientific documentation that demonstrates that many Pleurothallids seem to be pollinated by fungus gnats.

That's awesome!

Oh my! Beautiful little flowers!

Oh beautiful!! Could you take a picture of the whole plant too? I'd love to see it!

ChipMolly 01-07-2015 12:10 AM

Sure here's the whole plant.

Wow! Look at how tall the spikes are! Adorable little leaves! What a cute plant! It's going on my wish list for sure. Thank you so much!

My pleasure RandonGemini. Unfortunately the hot weather in Sydney has damaged some of the flower spikes - looking rather scraggly. I'm thinking of investing in a thermostat controlled vivarium type enclosure in the future, depending on how full my piggybank feels sigh.

I have an exo-terra terrarium and I love it. It's the smallest one they make and that size seems to be perfect for miniatures. I watched for it to go on sale and got a great deal, but I have noticed that snake lovers seem to replace these as their snakes grow so you might be able to find one for relatively cheap by looking for a used one.

Beautiful! I love the Platystele, such tiny tiny blooms. I have a stenostachya and it blooms constantly.
