Recieved my Den Knobles from Yamamoto
4 Attachment(s)
For Christmas my husband wanted to get me some den knobles. I decided to order them right from Yamamoto in Hawaii. They have a beautiful web site so I picked out some from their list. Since I wanted blooming size I only picked the ones on the web site that were available. I later learned that the web site hasn't been updated in two years so many others were available. It didn't really mater since there are so many to choose from.
I emailed my list of seven to Yamamoto and followed up with a phone call. Koichi said I could have one extra for free. Since Christmas was getting close we decided to wait until after Christmas to ship them. I received an email with shipping info on Monday and they arrived at 12:30 PM on Wednesday. I am very impressed with the beautiful orchids I received. They were very carefully packed and in great shape. One is starting to bloom and a few have good size buds. The others are just starting to bud so I will have blooming dens for months. All have buds coming out from old stems as well as the new stems. Here is the list of orchids I received: 1 Den. Comet King ‘Akatsuki’ (#135) BL. 4” 18.00 1 Den. Love Memory ‘Fizz’ (#186) BL. 18.00 1 Den. Fancy Yellow (#243) BL. 20.00 1 Den. Lucky Angel ‘Smash’ (#198) BL. 28.00 1 Den. Great buy. I visited Yamamoto Dendrobiums last year. Had a chance to meet and talk to Koichi, the nursery manager and grower. They grow their Nobiles exceptionally well. They have the perfect climate to grow and bloom this type of dendrobium. I picked up a dozen plants but I know it will be a struggle for me to bloom them since my area is a little too warm for Nobiles. They need a month or two of 50 degree nights to initiate budding. You were smart by getting plants already in bud. Yamamoto Dendrobiums has a good discussion on their website about raising Nobiles. You should read it if you haven't already. Please post pictures of the plants when they bloom.

I love my Love, Memory, Fizz. I am a total dendrobium fan now! I really want to get some from Yamamoto, but I want to finish school and move first.

The Country Girl has a lot of flowers open and really looks beautiful. Two more should bloom in a few weeks. I know I will never be able to get as many blooms as they have now again. I did buy one grown locally a month ago and it has some buds but not as many as the ones I got from Yamamoto. We do get some nights in the 40's and fifty's and even as low as the 30's so I hope I can get them to bloom next year.

Wow! Look at the roots and flowers on that!

It has over 15 canes so I plan to divide it after it finishes blooming.
