Red colour phal under leaves and crown
4 Attachment(s)
Hi everybody,
I have as little phal I bought without blooms on sale. I couldn't help noticing its leaves are burgundy red on the undersides...the crown too! I keep it along with my other phals which have a nirtmal green colour, no sunburn marks. The window is shaded by a huge olive tree so direct sunlight is not an issue. I've read on the internet that it could be linked to the colour of the blooms. Is that so? Thankyou in advance! |
Not at all uncommon for a hybrid having a lot of red in its genetics. Probably going to be in the pink/red/purple color range.

Nice thank you!

My Hello Kitty Phal has the same burgundy coloration under the leaves. The flowers are white with random magenta splotches.

Some DTPS. Its just telling you it is happy.

Thanks! So curious to see the blooms!!

Already been said.
For many phal hyrbdis, that color on the underside of the leaves is just normal. has nothing to do with the health of plants or light it gets. Some phals just have that color and that's natural part of them. My white phal with red lip is that way and I find it acutally very appealing. I actually never had any red or purple or pink phal displaying that, they were all green top and bottom. It just depend on what hybrids they are. |

Hello again!this orchid has a growth which has been going on for weeks! And it is still small. I thought it was a spike but now it looks weird :s any idea of what it is??

Looks to me like a deformed spike

I have a Phal that is pure white (except for small yellow & tiny red marks on the lip). The leaves have even more red pigment than yours.
I think it is genetic, but not necessarily linked too blooms with prominent red coloration. |
