Phrag fischeri -- a young one 12.17.14 with pics
 

I'm not very experienced with Phrags, and this guy is a wee mite of a Phrag. Leaf span of maybe 4", whole plant about 3/4 inch tall. I received it bare root 6 weeks ago and potted it in a 2" plastic pot that's about 3" deep.

I'd love to hear experience from anyone growing this one, or anyone who's grown young Phrags. Anything different in the culture of the young ones?

Experience from anyone who grows fischeri and/or has had really young Phrags still welcome!

General care for the youngsters is same for mature plants, with perhaps a little extra tlc.

Since the pot is going to be smaller, you'll need to water more often. Phrag. fischeri prefers lots of water, and drying out should be avoided.

This species is best suited to growing indoors year round so they get more restricted temperatures. Obviously winter around here is too cold, but on the flip side, our upper 90s to 100+ F summers can be tough on certain phrags, and I believe fischeri is one of the ones that doesn't like heat.

Like its cousin schlimii, it doesn't need quite a bright of light as a lot of other phrags will appreciate. Paph - phal level light should be great. To clarify, paph - phal level light is probably good for most phrags, but a lot of them benefit from higher light levels.

And if all else fails, you can gift the plant to me, neighbor.

Can I interest you in a shrimp-fed schlimii instead?

Thanks for all the good information. I jumped into Phrags at the deep end of the pool and am trying to get up to speed on their culture before I do any serious harm.
