Cymbidium attacked by snails-what to do
3 Attachment(s)
Hi everybody, I bought a cymbidium with green blooms for cheap. I've noticed there was a slug under the pot...now I noticed another one on a new growth or spike!!:(
It is blooming right now and has two new growth which I don't know whether they are spikes or growth. I'm not sure whether I should repot it or wait. The media looks very much like soil. Thank you for your help! |
Pick off any that you see. If you can get iron phosphate snail/slug bait, use some of that on the media surface.
I believe I have read that you can put potato slices on the surface, leave over-night, and in the morning slugs should be on the underside. I'm sure that other members will have other suggestions! |
Your local garden store will have both chemical and organic slug/snail solutions. Here in the US, I use Deadline with a small dollop on the media of each pot. Once it dries, pets will not be interested in it. It can also be used as a thin line on the benches around the edges or just around each pot.
Another product is Ortho Slug and Snail granules. These can be scattered around and over the plants. It does not mark the leaves of Cyms but I cannot speak for more tender orchid leaves. |
My dad has some blue granules..I need to check the box to see if its suitable for orchids.
I feel bad for the slugs but I need o protect my property! |
