date on Cattleya

I know it takes many years to grow an orchid. My Cattleyas have a date on the ID tag. Is this date when it was first germinated or planted? I have several that haven't bloomed yet since I got then as babies. One is 7/12 and the other is 3/11. I also have two smaller ones that have no date. I'm really hoping the 3/11 one will give me a flower soon.

Some people write the date on which they repotted the orchid on a tag in the pot. A man in my orchid society who sell plants does this. Just a guess.

I do the same thing, I write the month and year I last repotted on the tag. Some cattleyas can bloom at a fairly small size. I would think that if the plant is at least 3 years old, it should be old enough to flower.
