My first phal rebloom from old spikes
2 Attachment(s)
Hello OB,
I bought this phal in bloom last summer, and after it finished blooming the spikes (yes, it has two) never dried up. So about 6 weeks ago I decided to try to go for a rebloom, and clipped the tips of both spikes down to the top node. I was not expecting it to do anything as it seemed to be very busy growing new roots and leaves. Now it's on it's second new leaf since September and the vigorous root growth is finally slowing down. Well, last week I noticed the swelling in the topmost nodes. Low and behold, today it looks like there's definitely something going on there. Behold my very first offshoot spikes! Please indulge this excited newb - when should I expect buds to emerge? how about flowers opening? I have heard that there are typically few flowers and they are small when a rebloom happens on an old spike. How many flowers should I expect, on average? Anything I can do now to maximize the flowers? The plant is strong and healthy. |
It will probably just branch off a flower or two from that position IMO.

I did the same thing but to a plant that I have had for 5 years. This was the first time I tried to rebloom from exciting spike. It's bloomed for me before from a new spike. This time I got 2 branches off the old spike and a new spike growing from the base. I am so excited to see how many flowers it gives me. I think she is happy I finally repotted her haha.
It's so much fun seeing your orchid spike! Congrats. |

Very nice, enjoy those flowers when they bloom! It is an awesome feeling to look at flowers that you grew yourself, shows you are on the right track.

Good luck! Now you just need to patiently wait...and wait. :)

Congrats! You may want to feed the plant with a weak fertilizer. That should help with the blooms
