The old $100 notes, Can I still use it at the US?
A couple of months ago US government issued the new 100 dollars notes and in Indonesia that means the old green paper 100 dollars notes are obsolete and can't be deposited in banks, even money changers have different exchange rates for the old and new bank notes.
So can I still use the old 100 dollars notes at the US? Or do I have to use the new blue ones? Thanks |
Yes, you can still use it. We don't turn old bills in for exchange with newly issued bills.
If it's a really old bill, check to make sure it's not collectable. |

Thanks, I think my old notes are just a couple years old and I'll buy the cheaper green notes if I need it.
In Indonesia, banks are very fussy with US dollar bills; if you want to deposit them, they have to be as if they just print them this morning, crisp, uncreased, no marking, no stamp and it has to be certain serial numbers, if not the banks will penalized you, because of that the rest of the country only accept bills with that kind of pristine conditions Annoying! |
Sorry I thought I replied to this yesterday. As long as the paper is in reasonable shape and is not counterfeit, three old bills are fine. I only mention the shape the bills are in because I've lived in rural Madagascar and sometimes the paper is so worn you can barely see what the bill originally was. That wouldn't fly in the U.S. But if the bill is in reasonable shape, it's still good for its stated value.

wow different exchange rates for old and new notes.
only thing that wont take an old 100 dollar bill is the cash deposits thru the ATM's and bec they dont have the strip inside the paper...you can still use any paper money the US has ever made just about. Some of its worth more than the face value but you can still spend it with no trouble. eventually money will come attached to our foreheads via barcodes. They will just scan us everywhere we go. no need for cashiers anymore cus they will scan your forehead on the way out the door to get paid. Street bums will have to change their approach. got an extra credit mister? |
What are the different rates? Wondering if its worth the effort to travel there and set up shop buying US notes.

Banks are more brutal, they uses percentages, the amount in percent depends on which banks Quote:
Wow that sound like "the mark of the beast" in the book of revelations hahaha |
Lol I think you're right about the mark of the beast.
I think if you're planning a trip to the US, buy up all the cheap battered bills you can! They spend absolutely the same here. You can even exchange any leftovers while you're over here for crisp ones. Don't forget to load up on goodies from your orchid complex to bring with you lol. Especially that den. canaliculatum hybrid. Just kidding! |
