broken Den.Phal
1 Attachment(s)
I just broke the top off of my Den Phal. Does anyone know if this can be saved ? Right now it is laying in a bed of damp SH with just the broken end covered. Do you think it will grow roots, or just wither and die ?:(

With dens, you just never know. If you have a spot that is very warm, you can put your set up in a large plastic ziplock bag in that warm spot and just wait and see. If you get new growth, it will be from a node (like a keiki).

Well, this is a young shoot that was in active growth before being broken off, it won't do much actually.
It might make roots near the cut site and grow, but not likely. but give it time. Keikis are made on full grown cane and that is not even always guaranteed. Most likely, the other part of the plant, I think you have the whole plant with top broken off, it will either make a new growth at the base of the cane or grow a keiki off of a node near the broken site. Also, if this ever happens again, the best fix is to immediately place it back to where it was trying to align them as correctly as possible. Then secure them tight by using a gause tape (that you use for dressing light cut). The plant will heal itself and continue on growing. |
I wish I had known that
Thanks for that piece of info. I will file that away for future use for sure
