Cymbidium: virus or mites
 

I have this Cymbidium hybrrid for a couple of years now. It bloomed only once, I seperated it into 2 plants last year. They have been outside (shade) during the summer. No signs of bloom, just growth. Both plants have the same symptoms (my other Cymbidiums don't): new leaves: light green marks, becoming yellowish. It did suffer from mealy bugs last year.
Could this be caused by mites? Should I think about a virus?
The last picture is of another Cym, with some blackish spots, anyy info on this is also wanted!

Are they shaded all the time in spring and summer? If so, that is likely why they haven't bloomed. They like a fair amount of sun during those sessions.

Sorry, but in my opinion both plants appear to have a serious case of virus, several in fact. CymMV/ORSV as well as possible Orchid Fleck virus in the larger one. :( It could also have mites, thrip and scale but virus is the death sentence.

Isolate the plants immediately but preferably send them to the garbage, pots, labels and all! These viruses are easily spread by the passing of plant serum from plant to plant by human as well as some insect vectors. There is no known cure which will not kill the plant host as is true of killing any virus. If you wish to test to be sure and see if other plants in your collection are infected, contact Agdia. They sell home virus test kits.

Although nobody can tell you the cause by photos - to me it looks highly suspect of virus infection. Have a look

I'm afraid it is virus. Also because I have 2 other cymbidiums which don't show any signs like this.
I'm thinking about ordering virus test kit but its' quite expensive (10€ per test for CyMV and ORSV) and for some virusses (like Orchid Fleck Virus) there isn't a commercial kit available. The suspect ones will stay outside cause with winter coming I fear an infection with sucking might spread the virus throughout my collection.

My first thought. Virus, and more than one type for sure! Do not toss into the compost pile if you have it because virus does not die there.
Bag it and dump in the garbage, or use as barbecue fire material.lol

There is no treatment available.

You can toss them or keep them isolated. Some viral plants can live and flower but you run the risk of contaminating others (if they aren't contaminated already). There isn't an absolute diagnosis without testing-that goes to NON-symptomatic plants as well. If you keep them, make sure to practice good hygiene.

I purchased a viraus kit for CyMV and ORSV.
Normal incubation time is half an hour. I saw a light band (besides the control, which was ok), but it only appeared after an hour or more. For these symptoms, I expected a clear and fast reaction. Perhaps at Agdia they can tell me more (cross reaction?). So I'm not that sure about the type of virus. Trueth is, other tests aren't always available commercially. Another Cymbidium (not suspected to be infected) was clearly negative.

Are chlorotic (light coloured) spots caused only by viruses? I have several phals with them.
