Is this really Den. kingianum?
 

As I'm relatively new to orchids...I was sent this as a seedling (gift) and it was labeled den. kingianum. Had two brown tendrils and some nice roots. Since planting it has grown the tendril with leaves...researched the ID but it just doesn't match up. Anyone??

It is a dendrobium, but definitely not kingianum. You will probably need a flower to have a better idea of what it is.

It looks like a Dendrobium. Dendrobium kingianum is much shorter and has psuedobulbs whereas your plant has canes.
With the leaf structure it could be any one of these species or a hybrid using these species : anosmum, primulinum, pulchellum, parishii, victoria-reginae, miyakei. I'm sure there may be others that this could also be but these are the ones that come to mind first.

Really hard to say without a bloom pic and even then you can't be 100% sure.

Yea definitely not den. Kingianum

When I researched the Den. Kingianum and saw what it was all grown up, I was pretty sure it was misidentified. My Stepmomma got it on EBay...nuff said, eh? I'm hoping she grows up to be a pendulate variety. Either way, receiving any orchid as a gift any time is great in my book!

Quick question: When it *does* get big enough to bloom, assuming it is of the anosmum variety, how does the growth behave? Do the leaves fall off and then buds pop out on tendrils/canes, or will the leaves stay green...?

I would bet money that it is lawesii or glomeratum rather than anosmum. It could also be Nestor, which is very readily available. The reddish tinge to the canes is a tell-tale sign of lawesii and glomeratum.

I am not saying that your plant is an anosmum....but I said it might be similar....you might not have flowers if your plant needs winter rest....chances are you will get keikis instead of flowers....that will be your dilemma.

Bud...blooming size?? It's so tiny...in a 2.5" pot. But that'd be great! ;)
Did a little more clicking around...hoping it's an aphyllum, described by someone as a cascade of butterflies.
I can *hope* all I want...it's gonna be whatever it is.
