My Home tile project
i got a new home for me but its old and worn out some. It had an old cheap laminate floor that was driving me nuts and got my OCD going and I tore it out one day and spent the next crying
Well I found I could not afford a tile contractor so I learned how to do tile off the internet. http://rkidkelly.smugmug.com/Flowers...6_130548-L.jpg Im so happy it looks damn good. Porcelain wood grain hand scraped tile. Its heavy and I put down 24 cases of tile (15 tiles per case) 5 tubs of pre mix mortar, and 3 tubs of grout. I also made a visit to the chiropractor when I was done. I have figured out how to get pics up again also :bowing http://rkidkelly.smugmug.com/Flowers...8_095852-L.jpg my new project is slate and travertine entrance for the perch |
Very nice. I'm quite fond of the wood tile.
I'll be honest. You did a better job than the people who did my travertine. |
it looks awesome. I looked around a lot and settled on this . The room had a dark walnut floor and it sucked up all the light in the home. I did this to brighten it up for the most part.BUT Thank you for the compliment and Im very happy it turned out so well. My neighbor asked me if I did tile for a living I said NO NO NO.. Its too much damn hard work. I have about 500 more sq ft to deal with in the kitchen but it needs leveled or removed. I dont have the back to tear it out or the money.
total price was around 800 bucks for almost 450 sq ft and I was blessed with a perfect flat floor. It had been in bad shape I would not have been able to do the work. http://rkidkelly.smugmug.com/Flowers...1_133928-L.jpg |
Beautiful! You did a great job!
|
Your hard work was well worth it! That came out great! Really like the style of tile you chose too! Just think, you'll never have to refinish your wood floors!!!
Your "perch" came out looking pretty good too! Don't forget to seal the grout in your LR. It'll save it from staining...in case you spill something. ;) Judi |
That is very nice! That will be our project soon...time and money permitting heheh!
|
the only tip I can give you is to lay the tile out with the spacers and cut everything before you start laying the tile. Its much easier than cutting and chasing while your trying to get the tile down before the thinset gets goopy. I learned the hard way and took me longer. on the job training.
I had done some small bathrooms in the past but my anxiety was very high getting this started. If you mess tile up its take 10 times more work to fix it. I have some experience now lol :) |
Congrats and when's the housewarming party? :D
|
I have some tile experience and you did a very nice job. Prep work is 3/4 of the battle. Sit back and enjoy for a while now.
|
Wow! Can you come help us do some tile? I can promise good southern cooking and desserts and an ever ready hot pot of coffee! Reallly nice job. :)
