Formerly known as Bothriochilus macrostachyus, this species is distributed in pine-oak and Liquidambar forests between Mexico and Panama, as a terrestrial, lithophytic and epiphytic plant. It grows in the warmer days of summer and keeps a cooler and dryer winter rest. It might be grown together with Lycastes, Cymbidium or Laelia purpurata, a bit out of the direct summer sun. Flowers open in August/September and have a nice perfume. Flowering the whole spike lasted 3 weeks.
