A Den NoID - but it must be SOMETHING!
2 Attachment(s)
So, here are a couple of pics of a Den that I received as a NoID. It's grown like a darn weed and the largest cane, which is now in bloom, is about 2 and 1/2 feet tall!
Can anyone tell, by it's flower, what species or - at least -what section, it may be? A clue is that the flower, except for the color, is almost identical to a Den-Phal hybrid I have, which is also in bloom. Shape, position, etc, are the same. Maybe it's a Den-Phal? I've attached pics of the Den-Phal, too. They bloomed at the same time! Thanks, all! |

Ooops. Forgot to attach the Den-Phal pics. Here they are. They are almost identical to the NoID, except for color.

That first one has a quite unique color combination!
It will grow big like that because of the influence coming from species like lineale. It's a hybrid which is basically like den-phals but with more dose of species from spatulata section. They need more warmth and will grow big and make lots of longlasting flowers year around under good conditions. They need a lot of light, but not direction sun of course. The second one is a den phal as you say. This color form is quite common and I can't tell for sure although a few names come up. |
Thanks, NYorchidman!

I love the color of your orchid its very beautiful. I wouldn't mind one of them myself. Looks like its burgundy color.

It's a dark violet.
Contact Kawamoto orchids in Honolulu. They sell orchids on eBay, but they seldom post these dendrobiums although they usually have many of them in bloom around this time of the year. They are quite cheap I remember, like $10 each. If you just ask them your like dark flowered dendrobium, they will select a few good ones for you. |
