Gastrochilus [Gchls.] japonicas – cutie in bloom
1 Attachment(s)
This is my first time blooming little cutie. I bought this one in June of last year (about 15 months ago). It came in a pot and really didn’t do much. This spring I mounted it on cork with moss and it took off. It attached to the cork in a matter of weeks, and here it is with two spikes with 6 flowers each. The flowers are about 1.5cm across and hang below the foliage. (This photo was taken with the plant upside down :).) It doesn’t seem to be fragrant.
I’m still practicing with my macro lens and seeing how to best capture the “personality” of an orchid . I think this one looks like it’s having a goof time showing off its beautiful blooms. Gastrochilus [Gchls.] japonicas is also known as the Yellow Pine orchid and the Japan Gastrochilus. Enjoy! Attachment 103766 |
Good shooting, Carrie, and great growing. Congrats on the little bouquets. I acquired mine in January at a show. It was in bud and subsequently bloomed, so I am hoping for buds in the next few months. Enjoy your little cutie.

That's beautiful Carrie! I just recently bought a Gastrochilus but he's in a weee tiny little pot. I think I'll take your heed and mount the little fella!
Thanks for posting your picture! I love it! |
Oh nice. Love this genus!

This plant is spiking again now as well as growing new leaves and a new plant-let. I'm very happy with it. Hopefully, I can grow it into a specimen.
