Yellowing leaves Peristeria elata
 

Hi, everyone- I have a newly acquired Dove orchid that arrived with leaves that were slightly yellowed at the tips- from my reading that is normal for this plant. But today I have two leaves that are almost completely yellow. This happened overnight. I repotted yesterday and they were yellowing down the leaf but were about 1/4 down the leaf. Is this the fungus common to this orchid or senescence? The plant is in spike. Should I remove the leaves?

Last night when I repotted (I did this because it was a new plant and every new plant gets repotted no matter what) I found an ancient bulb buried way down- it was yellow and rotting so I snapped it off. Thanks in advance for any advice. I did read quite a few culture sheets but they weren't super helpful with my questions about the leaves.

I'm thinking more and more this is the typical fungus this plant gets and I need to remove the leaves.

I also have this plant. I got it a year ago from Kawamoto Orchids. I did not repot it. The leaves were beautiful large--like yours. The leaves stayed green through winter. But in January, the leaves all turned yellow like yours. By the time May 2014 rolled in, I still had about five leaves but, new pups were peeking their heads up above the substrate. When I moved this plant outside at the end of May, I repotted it--which hastened the demise of the rest of the leaves over the next two months. I only have one large leaf on the plant but I have a lot of small little pups growing very slowly. My plant looks odd. I'll post a picture of it when I get home today.

I was also thinking this plant had a virus but now that I see yours, perhaps this is normal?

I ended up removing the yellowed leaves and snipping the top of the other one and that seems to have stopped it. I have a new growth too (don't know if it's considered a pup- you can see it next to the spike in the first picture). I hope it does ok with the repot. I ordered an orchitop for it.

There is some fungus that they get - it isn't supposed to spread to other orchids at least.

Its not fungus. Your plant is not sick. It is reacting to your environment. It is used to high humidity and moisture, warm temperature with bright light....when it reached your indoors environment it triggered its autumnal instincts and will shed its leaves. I suggest you take it with you on your morning showers to give it moisture and warmth....hopefully the spike wont blast. Its still warm outdoors .... bright and humid in PA maybe it will revive and perk up.

....I repotted mine and it is sulking....maybe next year it will bloom again
