Rhyncholaelia digbyana

A distinctive species from Mexico. Easy to grow, but refuses to flower here unless it gets maximum light. So I was cruel, moved it to a place directly under the glass. At first sunburn took its toll, but then it rewarded me with a flower.

Very nice!

Awesome!

I have one of these that I got as a seedling 4 years ago. I will now start to move it to brighter light and see if I can achieve the flower (without the sunburn).

Wow, so you can sunburn digbyana!
Was that a gradual move to brighter, or was it really aggressive? Did you have good air movement to keep the leaf temp down? Good bright light works for me - I have mine about 1' - 1 1/2' away from a 1000W MH light on a light mover. |
One of my favorites. I have one which grew and flowered in very moderate light in my living room for years, but never more than one lead and one flower. After reading accounts of it in habitat, I moved it (gradually) to very bright light in the greenhouse, and it's rewarded me with more leads and more flowers.
