Rhyncolealia glauca
2 Attachment(s)
I rather like Rl. glauca, it doesn't have the wow factor like it's more illustrious sister digbyana, but I still have space and time for poor old glauca.

Nothing poor about those blooms!
Looks like thats a good sized specimen too! Judi |
Have just gone outside to smell it’s scent (it is night time here in Africa), I can small it from quite a distance, rich sweet scent. Apparently Rhyncolealia only produce scent at night to attract its pollinator, months. I have read that if you shine a torch on the flower, or have it near an external light source, the flower will stop producing it’s scent.

I'm probably the odd ball but I like glauca better than the digbyana. I have a huge one, division of a highly awarded digby and I don't like the messiness of the lip. I love the lip it adds to the offspring but the parent not so much.
I've grown my glauca from flask and can't wait for it to bloom and look like yours. Brooke |
I think your glauca is lovely. I wish my poor old glauca would bloom!
|
That's an outstanding looking plant, Owen. And those blooms are really wonderful. Yes, Rhyncholaelia glauca isn't as popular as digbyana, but it's still a charming species with a lot to offer. Congratulations on your beautiful flowers.
|
I am also a huge glauca fan and am eagerly awaiting this year's blooms.
Orchidkiller, I have to say that yours is a VERY nice flower on well grown plant! Great growing! |
Rl. glauca is to Rl. digbyana as Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa is to Andy Warhol's Marilyn Monroe. There is room in the world for many kinds of beauty, but it is clear which one is the timeless classic.

Beautiful plant. R. digbyana will always be one of my favorites, in part because it was one of my first orchids, but I like and grow glauca too.

Really lovely!
