Stanhopea napoensis - For your eyes only!
1 Attachment(s)
An easy growing species from the Rio Napo area in the oriente of Ecuador. Luckily plants are now available as an offspring from seed. The fabulous flowers are a true feast for the eyes.:D:D:D
But it's a stinky one. Or more precisely: the fragrance is like a cart load of horse manure.:(:(:( |
Beautiful! Too bad about the scent though.

Gorgeous!

What a lovely flower....now I dread to see my plant bloom with a manure smell....
|
Sweet (looking, anyway).

:hello Lovely! I'm trying my hand at these but always thought they needed a large, holed basket since blooms come from the bottom. Yours appears to be pendant right off the pot edge.:hmm:thanx:
|
Gorgeous! Stink or no stink...if I grew stans I think I'd have to have this one. Very nice!!
|
Fascinating! Subtle, lovely. And, given I am a horse person, I think I might not mind the scent!:)

I grow my young Stanhopeas in plastic pots. This keeps the rootball evenly moist. And in many cases flowers manage to jam over the rim. Also often holes just under the rim are better than holes in the bottom of a pot. But if you can offer moist conditions, grow them mounted.
