Baby Cym needs help
 

third time trying to post
See pics, explains alot, looks like my Cym. Adventure, more on that later.
1. lines at bases of leaf stalks?
2. Discloloration on bulbs?
3. stunted growth even outside?
4. premature termination of new growth leaves?
5. black spots or freckles all over plant?
was going to repot it this week but I'm wondering if its saveable or what I should do. Is this guy sick? A curious mind wants to know.
Any any suggestions or ideas will be entertained. I just don't want to lose this one. this is my 3rd Cym two of which are very mature and the other one went on a great adventure with me I don't know if he's gonna make it.

Really, maybe I'm hyper sensitive right now, seems to be a lot of little things happening with the plants. Maybe the dang heat is it

Your plant looks normal but it is ready to be potted up into a 1 gal pot. The slight shriveling of the bulbs is saying that the roots are not getting enough moisture to the bulbs. It could be for several reasons, not just not enough water.

This time, bury the bulbs 1/4 their length. When they ride high in the pot like yours is doing now, probably because of a good root growth, they wobble too much and the roots have trouble getting established into the media.

Remember, orchids are not silk flowers. The leaves do have blemishes, no matter how well grown. Stop worrying and enjoy your plant.

I note you are in the Sacramento area. There are several orchid societies in your area. Check out the Sacramento Valley Branch of the CSA (Cymbidium Society of America). They have a very friendly group of Cymbidium growers there. Sacramento Orchid Society is an all genera club there also.

I'm sorry could not reply until now. I tried to post a couple of time that you told me that my time has expired.
Trying it again, really I should pot this into one gallon pot, he is not even grown out of the pot he is in. when I do can I put him straight into a 7 in cym pot?, got it when I got him cuz I knew I was going to have to pot up one day. If the health of the plant is okay then I'm not worried about the way it looks right now. it just seems to look like to send video in my head to tear apart earlier in the year. Show you that later. Look for my post 'The Great Cymbidium Adventure' I am close to the Sacramento area but I'm closer to the Stockton area could you refer me to need to be a couple clubs out in that area.I would be most grateful.

A 7" pot is too big, in my opinion. You are better off with a 6" standard 1 gallon black pot available at most garden centers or OSH. Do not divide this plant but just pot it up to a larger pot, gently removing the dead (soft) roots and the old mix, and trimming any long roots so none touch the bottom of the new pot.

If you will send a request to goldcoastcymgrowers@gmail.com they will send you complete instructions for dividing or just repotting a Cymbidium. Many members of the OB have done so and found it very useful.

The only purely Cymbidium group meeting in the Sacramento area is the one I mentioned. There are a couple of other all genera societies, The Orchid Forum and the Sacramento Orchid Society (search Google) but I do not know if they would be any closer to you. They do have knowledgeable members who grow Cyms. however.
