Any Henryanum Growers Here?
 

Hi.

As per the title. I've not really been moved to growing species, but now that I am veering (organically) toward possibly more Paphs, I am drawn to this one.

Because I am all about spotted dorsals; I find them whimsical, captivating and charming, they make me smile.

I also like the compact form of this species.

I have one - what do you want to know?

I also have a hybrid called Bailey's Bid. It grows like a weed. Highly suggest that one - google it!

I have one henry and two of its hybrids, although I need Doll's Kobold, which is my favorite henry hybrid.

If you like spotted dorsal, you can also try the founding block species of the complex hybrid.

Also, gratrixianum can be quite nice if you get a good one.



Jeremy- Have you got a flower photo of your Bailey's Bid?? If I find it pretty and you are willing (since you mentioned how it grows like a weed), I would love to get a division of your.
I've seen a few, and it can be really nice!!! :)

I can keep you in mind next time I break it apart. Perhaps late in the fall after the next bloom. I can send it to you along with the Bruno you told me you were interested in that you never got ;)

I will have to look for the photo, I know I took one, but I have no idea where it is. I'm pretty behind on orchid pictures, actually. When I come by it, I will post it.

As always, I wanna know everything. Open to all input & data, but as, I submit, is normal, I end up evolving my own assessment (as I encourage everyone to). I can feel I am on my way to one of these cuties.

Saw a lovely one on eBay from a bit ago, it sold for $8 plus shipping. I was gob smacked. That's almost free! I think they said it was BS too.

Is yours a consistent bloomer?

And, do you have a lowii? if so, do you have any pics of it?

Not sure if this is it nor not, this is GORGEOUS....but oddly, I like the charm and the whimsy of the plain species with its big dorsal spots.

Yes that's Bailey's Bid, and that person is local to me, and is where I got mine from. So my flower looks the same. My plant is much larger though.

For the species, mine is spiking right now. Only one flower this time, and last year I got two. It was very small to start with. And it doesn't seem to really want to 'get going' - and in general I have pretty good success with that. My druryi is already 20+ growths and most people can't get them to grow fast. So I'm not sure why the henry is the way that it is... maybe it's just the one I have.

Yes on the lowii - three plants of that. I really like it. I also have paph robinianum, which is a primary hybrid of it with parishii. These are very, very different plants than the henry etc, but I'm sure you realize that.

I think yr henry is just intimidated by your druryi.;) I am trying to get some sense re if it's a reliable bloomer when grown indoors.

When the one of the two pots of the noid I have had forever finally opens its first, current bud...not too long from now----I became convinced here, it has major lowii influence----and when I put up pics of the flower, bet you will be able to either confirm or gainsay what I have come to so far!

I had a henry seedling for years and it did nothing. I think it was a dud (it happens), so I got rid of it hoping to try with a different cultivar. I have first dibs on a division of Jeremy's.

Ahah! First hand account re one of the main things I wanna know! This has already diminished my lust, tho, perhaps not for one of the primary hybrids.

PS: when you say "it did nothing," do you mean produce blooms or vegetatively as well?
