Prune?

My orchid flowered about 2 months, but now the flowers are falling and the stalk is turning brown
Will more than one stalk grow at a time?
The leaves and pseudo bulbs look healthy.
Do you ever cut the stalk or branches back?
Will it re-flower on the same stalk?
Does a new stalk grow out, and how long does it take?
New at this.

What kind of orchid do you have? I have a few, such as a Psycopsis, that will bloom and bloom and bloom right on the same old spike, one right after the other. Other types of orchids will do the same. We need to know what kind you have.

If you aren't sure...post a picture!

Me likes pictures! :blushing:

Welcome to Orchid Board :welcome:

As Janet says, the answers depend on the type of orchid you have.

I could guess it's a Phalaenopsis as they are the most common for beginners, but it could be something else.

General advice, is that if the spike dries up and changes colour, then you should cut it off/cut off the dead part.

I think pretty much any orchid will grow a new spike if you cut down the old one. But some it's best to leave, others it's best to cut down.

Photos always help, so we can identify what you have. However most new members find they need 5 posts before they can upload photos. Have a look through some of the photos in Orchid in Bloom and comment on a few and you'll soon have enough.

P.S. I've moved your post to the beginner section. Hopefully that will help you get some answers rather than just folks saying HI in the intros section. :)

Thank you Rosie!
I will take a photo when possible.

If it has bulbs it is not a phalenopsis. I'm assuming it is an oncidium intergeneric. They can have many sequential spikes, or even spikes at the same time, depending on size. A small plant of only a few bulbs because it is usually a small plant. They only put out flowers once a year usually in winter. Your plant was most likely tricked to bloom so it would be saleable at an unusual time.

Good catch, I missed the mention of p-bulbs.
