Gur (Cattleya) skinneri - back bulb divisions
1 Attachment(s)
I have two mature plants (alba 'Cherokee' FCC/AOS & standard 'Waldor' AM/AOS). I have three other clones:
Semi-alba var. Occulata Alba 'Kensington's Angel' Alba 'Debbie' FCC/AOS The first two were purchased as established BB plants in October 2013, small, but approaching BS. Both are busting double new growths this spring. The last one I got as a single BB in April 2013, with about 2" of live root. I put it in pure spaghnum in a 3" pot. It quickly set a new groth (1" bulb), which grew another bulb (4") over the winter. Now this one is also busting a double new growth (plant on the right). I guess it is something in the water. |
Nice! What's your regiment in terms of watering and fertilizing? Did you use KelpMax? Thanks ...

We water twice a week. Heavily in spring summer & fall, a little less in winter. We do try to pay extra attention to plants in smaller pots.
Fertilizer: plain Peters, every 2 weeks in spring, summer & fall, every 4 weeks in winter. |
Impressive growth from backbulb. I also had a backbulb. Was not sure it will produce new growth but I put it in a 2 inch clay pot and left it outside, with just a little piece of bark and a small piece of clay as media. Now has a growth. Very rewarding experience and makes you feel so humble about resilience of these plants.
How much of Peters in a gallon of water? Is it a 20-20-20 ? |
I am not sure what dosage of fertilizer (yes, it is 20-20-20). My co-tenant does the fertilizer, and I do the watering.
I am sure that my Vandas would like a little more, and Paphs perhaps a little less, but overall it seems to be adequate. |
