Dendrochilum cootesii with orangy powder on leaf backs
Hello...new member here. Received this plant in small net pot with moss. Looked good till I saw orangey powder on leafbacks. Alcohol didn't keep it at bay and all but one leaf is gone. I can grow other dendros. well but now I need help!:(

Welcome to Orchid Board :welcome:
I'm afraid I can't help, I've not seen anything like that. As you've not had any answers in the Intro's section I've moved your post to the 'Pets & Diseases' section in the hope more people there can help. |
Thanks Rosie...finding my way around this great site and appreciate your intervention!

Sounds like a rust but I've never seen it on an orchid. Rust is a fungus and loves moist, warm temps. Again, I've never seen it on an orchid but it is seen often in deciduous trees and shrubs around here.
Google rust and see if that's what you had. If so and if you have any plant left you'll want to get a fungicide and I would definitely get it out of the moss because the spores are likely in the moss. Fresh sphag (or other medium) and no more overhead watering until you're sure you have it cleared up. |
Thanks Katrina...repotted it 2 wks ago in fine Orchiata and letting it dry somewhat. I will do the Google thing and see what happens!
