Is the labeling on this Phal correct?

Most orchids are usually labeled with a tag so it was weird when I bought this Phal at nursery and saw that the name "Golden Embers" was printed on it's pot. Is there any way for me to check to see exactly what it's legitimate, full, scientific name is?

There is no Phal. Golden Embers registered with RHS. It may be a trade name, in which case it will probably be a NOID since places like that seem uninterested in correctly labeling their plants. If you can find out from the nursery what the parents are we might be able to get closer to a registered name.

I agree. You can also keep checking the RHS registry as sometimes there is a lag getting them into the database.

Personally I would have named it Phalaenopsis Delicious 'Key Lime Pie'. :D

I too am seeking to figure the type of mines. I think these should be labelled correctly so people won't have to go through the search. Hope you figure it out. It pretty though.

The key, of course, is to check labels before you buy and to check with the vendor to ask if it is registered (or soon to be registered) name.

It is impossible to determine the name of an orchid hybrid "after the fact." There are just too many that look so much a like. Sometimes, you just have to love the orchid for the color, form, price etc.

I also take a picture of a new labeled orchid flower with its tag in case the tag is every lost in the future.

I have come across Phalaenopsis Brother Golden Embers, which I believe is P. (Gladys Reed X Brother Passat)….which I have seen being sold at my local Lowe's….over a foot across leafspand, one inflorescence with five flowers of pure lemon yellow coloration with a slight green overcast pretty much the same as the flower in your picture. You are missing 'Brother' in your label.

That's what I was thinking, Bud. I guess I will ask my nursery next time I am there and see if they can tell me which greenhouse it came from, just to confirm our belief.
