leafmite's pathetically small Vanda falcata collection :)

So many of you have really fantastic Vanda falcatas and I have really enjoyed seeing them all. If I had more room and less of a love for so many other orchids, I would likely have many more as they are terrific orchids.

So, I am guessing this is unique but I really love the way the roots of my first, unnamed, common-type neo has spread across the lava rock. Happily, the awaharbeni is following suit. Unfortunately, the mameba nishiki has decided that on one side, the roots should grow straight down, leaving it lop-sided. I expect that in a few years, after a few fans, it will improve in appearance.

The awaharbeni and the mameba nishiki were actually tiny seedlings when I first bought them and looked exactly alike until the newer leaves of the awaharbeni appeared. The mameba nishiki has yet to put out new fans but I think I will see some this year.
So here are the pictures:

They look really happy! Thanks for sharing this type of growth media. Do u spray daily and what is your watering schedule through the seasons?

Thank you. I was just poking some fun at myself. I really do admire the variety that I have been seeing. They are so beautiful that it is a joy to see pictures of them all.
I don't really keep track of when I water in the winter but it is likely every five or six days. I give them a good soak, then. During the fall and spring, when they are growing, I water more often. In the summer, when it isn't raining every day, I water them every other day if it is cooler and up to twice a day if it gets over 30'C.

Very educational! I grow all of mine in sphagnum moss as I have no time to water so often and they are mounted up in the Japanese style .... Happy growing!

Nice!

I DO love Neo roots, and how happily they grow in many different media!

Hello, I have a recently acquired Neo Falcata too but it doesnt seem to be doing too well. It was mounted on a piece of wood. Am wondering if I should try to pry it off and replant it...

Try growing potted in bark or rocks.

Temperatures have to be able to cool down during the night.

Summers can be warm, but winters have got to be cool.

Wow~ that last one is cute! Is it going to stay this small when mature??

Well, if your collection is small, I have just one common white neo, but a multi-fanned large plant.
then two neo hybrids.
My neo collection can definitely need to grow. lol

My next goal is finding pretty (but affordable) variegated neo, and one with colored flowers.

It is a mini-bean orchid so fan-size shouldn't become larger, now. It was even cuter as a seedling, a tiny bit of green in that 'large' pot. :)
I think it is pretty neat how differently these guys can be grown, too. :)
