Save my Cymbidium!
 

Hi everyone,

I bought two cymbidium seedlings online and they took almost one month to arrive. Upon arrival they seemed a bit weak. I potted both with bark/coconut mix and watered once. They both had two yellow leaves which dropped straight away. After one week, one seedling normalized and the other one kept having more yellow leaves. This happened in just a few days as it only had 4 or 5 leaves in total.

I thought I should remove it from its pot. When I grabbed it, the remaining yellow leaves just fell on my hand and I noticed the "bulb" was very mushy.

I wonder if I can still save this cymbidium as it has one root that might recover, what do you think?

Also, is this fungal disease? They were not watered too much and both got same treatment, only one is dying. Is there a possibility that the orchid was sent to me already sick?

If the pbulb feels soft and mushy, I think it's a goner ... sorry

Looks very dead.

If the pseudobulb is mushy, its 100%, for sure, gone.

Hi Elisabetesr. Ok, this one looks like goner for sure HOWEVER I will share one thing here. I am placing orchids into our doggie park outside here in Florida. Mostly mounting on the trees, but some also potting into the soil around the trees. I had one Cymbidium that was driving me nuts at my balcony, and not doing well at all, leaves yellowing, no new roots showing. AT the point I was about to throw it off the balcony, I took that poor looking thing and went to park, just rigged the hole, and potted it there, outside. That is is, I do not care more for these outside orchids, they must fight, getting only rain water. In few weeks all leaves were gone, fallen laying on the side, no signs of Cymbidium anymore, so I thought. Some 2 weeks ago when walking doggies, I pass by the tree, always checking what orchids are doing, and believe it or not, there is BRAND NEW GROWTH from that dead Cymbidium! I have no clue how this happen, where did it get strength to grow, but it did! So, it ain't over till it's over. I would pot it and let it be, water lightly, and just see what happens in weeks or months. If it is dead, than it is dead, but it may surprise you!

That maybe possible if there is a pseudobulb even a very emaciated one, but in the photo, I do not see any at all. Just left over root, and more dead roots.

It appears black rot got to your plant, probably during the long time packed in shipping. If all the bulbs on a plant are soft and mushy and smell badly, it is gone. If you want to give it a "burial", that is your choice, but you might want to erect a small head stone. :bowing
